4.3 Conformance inspection.
4.3.1 Lot formation. Lot numbering shall be in accordance with the lot formation
requirements of MIL-STD-1916 (paragraph on the formation and identification of lots or
batches). In addition, each inspection lot of Cartridge 105MM, Blank M395 for Howitzers shall
contain:
a. Primer assemblies of one lot interfix number from one manufacturer.
b. Black powder of one lot interfix number from one manufacturer.
c. New or fired cartridge cases modified by one manufacturer, of the same type of metal,
from one lot interfix number.
d. Closing cups from one manufacturer in accordance with the same drawing and drawing
revision.
e. Closing wads from one manufacturer in accordance with the same drawing and
drawing revision.
4.3.2 Classification of characteristics.
a. Sampling requirements. Inspection sampling requirements for critical, major and minor
characteristics are defined in MIL-STD-1916. The acceptance criteria for sampling inspection
shall be in accordance with the levels provided in the conformance examination/test paragraph
and MIL-STD-1916. Unless specified otherwise, Verification Level VII in addition to 100%
inspection shall be used for all characteristics defined as critical, Verification Level IV shall be
used for all characteristics defined as major and Verification Level II shall be used for all
characteristics defined as minor.
b. Conformance inspection. Conformance inspection shall be performed in accordance
with paragraph 4.3.2.1 through 4.3.2.13. For all conformance inspection the same sample
specimen may be used for all non-destructive examinations or tests.
