3.5.2 Sound level. The cartridge shall function with a sound level of not less than 117
decibels.
3.5.3 Extraction. The cartridge case shall freely extract from the gun after firing.
3.5.4 Fragments. There shall be no case or primer fragments thrown more than 300 feet
(92meters) beyond the weapon muzzle. Metal parts separation or breakup is excluded. No metal
part failures are acceptable. If any metal part fails, the lot shall be rejected.
3.6 Workmanship.
3.6.1 General. The cartridge and all components shall be free of cracks, burrs which can
affect assembly, functioning or prove injurious to personnel handling the item; chips, dirt,
grease, rust, corrosions or other foreign material. The cleaning method shall not be injurious to
any of the parts nor shall the parts be contaminated by the cleaning agents.
3.6.2 Painting and marking. Prior to packaging of cartridges, painting and marking which
may have been marred or obliterated during handling shall be restored to meet requirements of
applicable drawings.
