MIL-DTL-60315C (AR)
6.9 Critical characteristics. Excess in propellant weight could cause temperature and
pressure of the gun tube to escalate. An overpressure gun tube at a higher than normal operating
temperature could cause gun tube deformation, and is hazardous to the energetic warhead. This
characteristic (excess in propellant), if out of control, could cause hazardous and unsafe
condition for the gun crew especially during sustained rapid firings at a hot climatic condition.
Missing increment or incorrect increment or incorrect weight of the propelling charge which
results in a lower weight for the propelling charge could cause short rounds which could
endanger the gun crew or cause a friendly fire incidence.
