MIL-DTL-14852D (AR)
6.13 Critical classification notes.
6.13.1 Ballistic lot acceptance test - projectile breakup
or component separation. Metal parts separation in the gun or
close to gun leads to leakage of energetic materials into the
projectile and is likely to cause premature functioning of the
round potentially resulting in injury or death for the Soldier
within the Surface Danger Zone.
6.13.2 Rotating band failure. Loss of a rotating band in
flight or in bore is likely to expose soldiers to hazards from
fragments potentially resulting in injury or death for Soldiers
in the field.
6.13.3 Metal defective. Metal parts defects, except
rotating band gaps, are likely to lead to breakup of the
projectile in the gun during firing. Fragments are likely to
cause injury or death to the troop.
6.14 Changes from previous issue. Asterisks are not used in
this revision to identify changes with respect to the previous
issue due to the extensiveness of the changes.
